Aikido World

On July 5, 2008, the Aikido Dojo del Norte held its annual Toyoda Shihan Memorial at its dojo in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. Present were students and teachers from Aikido Dojo del Norte and Shushinkan Dojo, Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. The instructors invited to teach were Bolivar Ramirez Sensei, Dojo-Cho of Shushinkan Dojo and Oliver Ramos Sensei. The event consisted of Aikido demonstration and practice. Also invited was Sifu Raymond Hernandez, who gave a demonstration of Yang Style Tai Chi and who spoke about the similarities between Tai Chi and Aikido. Several photos of the event are included below.

A reminder that AAA Summer Camp is right around the corner. The teaching will be provided by Frank Gallo Sensei (AAA National Teaching Committee Member) at Ryoshinkan dojo in Palatine, IL.

While my dojo has hosted several seminars, the instructors’ seminar at Tenshinkan in Chicago was the first one I had attended elsewhere. I was more than a little nervous—especially since I had only recently earned my 3rd kyu rank (the minimum necessary for the seminar). I also had no idea what to expect.

This July 11 - 13, the AAA and Shushinkan Dojo will host an Aikido Seminar in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez Campus - Department of Physical Education.

The weather’s getting warmer and that means the AAA’s Summer Camp Seminar is right around the corner. This year, Summer Camp will be held at Ryoshinkan dojo in Palatine, IL from June 27-29. Instruction will be provided by Dr. Frank Gallo Ph.D.

Gallo Sensei is a retired law enforcement officer, the Director of Research and Development and Defensive Tactics Training for Law Enforcement Press, and an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Western New England College. He has trained in special tactics and weapons, high threat warrant services, and V.I.P. protection and security. He is also a member of the AAA Teaching Committee and holds the rank of Yondan.
