Wednesday, 30.Last day before the beginning

Kensushei is starting tomorrow, so I and my two spanish friends have gone to the Science and Industry Museum, which seems to us very funny, and, later, we have     met Maite Sensei, who had gone to the Art Museum, and we four have visited the           Sears  Tower and have enjoyed some beautiful views of the town and the lake.                  After that, we’ve come back to the dojo and we have met two more kensushei participants.

Anyway, I’m happy that the program is about to start: I wish to train and meet       many people I still haven’t seen.

Tuesday, 29.Still in June.

Last night was the first one for the spanish people at the dojo.

There has been a zazen class in the early morning and, later, an aikido  demonstration at the Taste of Chicago, by Toyoda Sensei and Butler Sensei, in which I enjoyed participating.

I got impressed with all the things at the Taste: there were lots of spectacles,       food, and the best is that I could meet more people I didn’t have seen since last july.

Also, a new kensushei partner has just arrived: Ray Thomas,  thanks for staying the whole month with us.

After the demonstration, the spanish people and two uchideshi boys, James and      Inaki, took a big walk around the lake, and we also saw the big bean and Navy Pier, and walked along the Miracle Mile.

Later, we came back to the dojo and got into the last class of the day, after which I went to Walgreens shop to buy a few things for dinner for everybody. I reckon we are lucky of having this enormous shop so close to the dojo; we can buy almost whichever thing to eat we want.

kensushei: arrival

It’s monday, twenty eight of june. Today, all the spanish participants in  kensushei have arrived at Tenshinkan: we are three boys and Maite Fuertemoreno, our Sensei. As soon as we got the dojo, we met the two new uchideshi, and we all went with Toyoda Sensei to have lunch before taking six o’clock class, when we got glad to see some of last year people and practiced the techniques of our correspondent  exams. After a break, Casey Sensei took care of the next class, in which we reviewed basic bokken movements and the kumitachi.

Ryoshinkan Dojo Move

100_1705

Ryoshinkan dojo has moved to its new location, 534 W. Campus Drive, Arlington Heights, IL, 60004. We look forward to training with everyone there.

Many volunteers started at 8 am and, after 2 trips, the move was over about 1:30pm. Sean H. was a great help by starting early Fri to stack mats, roll up insulation and take down the Japanese Culture Center sign by himself. Everyone worked hard and did a great job!

Some pictures of the event were taken and are included as an attachment for those who may want to remember this event. If anyone has any trouble getting these pics, please let me know and I will transfer pictures another way.

Best regards,

John Bieszk
